Studio IMA is a design-led architectural practice, established in 2019 by architect-director Iain MacLeod. From our studio, an old fishmongers in Portobello, Edinburgh, we design and deliver architectural projects across the UK. We aim to create thoughtful and considered architecture which responds to the landscape and character of its site, working closely with our clients to deliver on their needs and aspirations.

About our studio

Selected projects

We’ve worked in locations across Scotland and the UK, from central London to uninhabited islands in the Outer Hebrides. Each project and each design is built on the place in which it is situated, and responds to the environment, traditions, people, materials and culture of its context.

With comprehensive technical knowledge and a strong sense of environmental and social responsibility, we take a holistic approach to good quality contemporary design.

Successful architectural projects are centred on people working positively together. We value collaborative working and personal relationships on every project at every scale. Each Studio IMA design is a team effort, and we measure success by how spaces work for the people who live, work, relax or play within them and the relationship to their context, both natural and built.
