Building a house in this remote and beautiful location, far from our Edinburgh base, presented a range of different challenges and opportunities to many other projects.

The primary structural timber kit was transported to site on two large trucks, which carefully navigated single track roads and a narrow stone bridge to reach the site.

The underfloor heating system was integrated directly into the structural slab, which also acts as the floor finish - a simple, robust but also unashamedly contemporary detail.

The site was carefully controlled to minimise impact on the surrounding machair, which will reclaim the landscape around the house over time.

Regular journeys up and down the A9 to undertake site inspections have made the Wester Ross area a special location for the practice.
