Studio IMA brings extensive expertise in creating finely crafted, resilient structures for rural and inaccessible sites. This capability builds on the continued success of Bothy Project, co-founded in 2011 by architect Iain MacLeod and artist Bobby Niven, and on their subsequent work with its trading arm, Bothy Stores (2017–2025).
Bothy Stores formed in 2017 as the trading arm of Bothy Project, developing a family of modest, pre-fabricated bothies – Artist, Craft and Studio – successfully installed in a range of hospitality and domestic settings across the UK. Bothy Stores was active 2017-2025.
We welcome enquiries from anyone interested in building one of our Bothy designs, or working with us to develop a bespoke solution for your project.
Get in touchModelled on Bothy Project’s popular Inshriach Bothy, the Artist Bothy is a pioneering piece of low-impact architecture designed to enhance the experience of spending time in nature all year round. The smaller Craft Bothy and larger Studio Bothy are evolutions of this original concept. The Bothies are built using sustainable, innovative materials and streamlined processes, resulting in simple, modern buildings.
"These bothies are quality structures that give something special to the user. They transport them to a different mindset through the medium of good design."
Gabriella Bennett, Sunday Times
Bothy Project was initiated in 2011 following an RSA Award, as a programme to give artists the chance to live and work within the Scottish landscape. From humble beginnings designing and self-building the first Bothy at Inshriach, Bothy Project has grown into a successful arts organisation and celebrated residency programme.
